Visiting a National Rural Landscape
2025, Single-channel video, 03:00 min
Visiting a National Rural Landscape is video work that investigates the contrast between rural and urban national landscapes, and reflects on themes of white working-class and identification regarding sexuality. The embarrassment of recording and singing a well-known pop song with Swedish landscape in focus highlights the juxtaposition of city and countryside. The singer performs the song with a Stockholm dialect although the song itself is based in the traditional rural landscape of Dalarna, with beautiful lakes and forests, in Sweden.
The work premiered as part of my MFA Degree Show at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki in 2025 curated by Nina Liebenberg, and was later shown as part of At Home with (7) exhibition series hosted and curated by Sini Pelkki and Magnús Logi Kristinsson in 2025.
